Eligibility Criteria for Applicants

To qualify for this visa, applicants must:

  • Be nominated by an approved Australian employer.

  • Have a minimum of two years of relevant work experience in the nominated occupation.

  • Possess the required qualifications and skills (including a positive skills assessment, if applicable).

  • Meet English language proficiency requirements.

  • Hold a valid visa if applying from within Australia (such as Bridging Visa A, B, or C).

  • Meet health and character standards.

  • Satisfy additional stream-specific requirements.

  • Meet the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) criterion (for Short-term stream).

Visa Streams Under Subclass 482

Short-Term Stream

  • Suitable for: Occupations listed on the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL).

  • Stay duration: Up to 2 years (or up to 4 years if International Trade Obligations apply).

  • Cost: AUD 1,455.

  • Renewal: Can be renewed once while onshore.

  • English requirement: Overall IELTS 5.0 (with a minimum of 4.5 in each band or equivalent).

  • Note: Only one temporary visa is permitted per applicant at a time.

Medium-Term Stream

  • Suitable for: Occupations on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or the Regional Occupation List (ROL).

  • Stay duration: Up to 4 years.

  • Cost: AUD 3,035.

  • English requirement: Overall IELTS 5.0 (minimum 5.0 in each band or equivalent).

  • Note: Applicants can reapply multiple times under this stream.

Labour Agreement Stream

  • Suitable for: Applicants sponsored by an employer under a Labour Agreement approved by the Department of Home Affairs.

  • Stay duration: Up to 4 years (conditions vary based on agreement).

  • Cost: AUD 3,035.

  • Note: Applicants must meet the specific terms and conditions of the agreement.

Employer Requirements

To sponsor an overseas worker, employers must:

  • Be legally operating in Australia.

  • Become an approved Standard Business Sponsor (valid for 5 years).

  • Pay a sponsorship fee of AUD 420.

  • Nominate a genuine, full-time position from the STSOL or MLTSSL.

  • Provide a valid employment contract.

  • Offer a salary at or above the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT).

  • Meet Labour Market Testing (LMT) requirements, where applicable.

  • Pay a nomination fee of AUD 330.

Health and Character Requirements

Applicants and family members must:

  • Undergo a medical examination (valid within 12 months of application).

  • Provide police clearance certificates to prove good character.

Including Family Members

You may include:

  • Your spouse or de facto partner.

  • Your or your partner’s dependent children or stepchildren.

Family members will have the same visa conditions and rights as the primary applicant.
